Is it up to the church to meet all my spiritual needs?
Years ago, the bears at Yellowstone used to die by the dozens by the side of the road every winter. Do you know why? They had become dependent on handouts from tourists in the summer, and they forgot how to forage for themselves. Many Christians don't bother to feed themselves by studying the Bible on their own. They depend entirely on handouts from a minister or a Bible study leader. While we all can benefit tremendously from what other people teach us, our personal time with God -- where we read His letter to us and have intimate conversations with Him in prayer -- is still essential for experiencing the abundant life.
