In Isaiah 53, the prophet Isaiah foretold that the Messiah would come from a humble family, would be rejected, would bear the punishment for others, would be pierced through for our sins, would be whipped, and would be meek and silent as a lamb led to the slaughter. He would be buried as a pauper but end up in a rich man's grave -- all this without ever committing any violence himself.
