C.S. Lewis suggested that most of us are like a child playing with mud pies in the ghetto who is offered a day at the beach but turns it down because he doesn't want to quit playing with the mud pies. The problem, from God's perspective, is not that we want too much out of life but that, like that child, we're satisfied with far too little -- we could have had a day at the beach! We settle for material success, ambition and power when God offers us something far deeper and more satisfying.

Too many people spend their lives climbing the ladder of success only to get to the top and find out it's leaning on the wrong wall.
