But how can I understand the Bible?
A few simple things will help. First, always try to write, highlight or take notes when reading, either in the Bible itself or in a journal. It's amazing how much more one learns with a pen in hand. Even with great reverence for the Bible, the primary point in reading it is to learn from it and to develop an intimacy with God, not to have an immaculate book that sits on the coffee table. Most people learn and remember more when they write. But, if that bothers you, just take notes on separate paper.
