Most people think that God will grade on a curve, that He will give good grades to the best students even though they miserably failed the test. We assume that God has to make a cut-off somewhere. It's like we are all on a ladder climbing our way up to Heaven by doing good deeds, hoping that the cut-off will be somewhere below the rung on which we're standing. Now if that were God's system, He'd have to be arbitrary and approve a lot of evil.
God's system isn't "grading on a curve" but rather "pass/fail." To pass, you must be perfect -- anything less is failure. God won't dumb-down His standard or approve of any evil.
