Maybe we just have to do our best
The problem is that even if God lowered the standard from perfection to "just do your best," it still wouldn't help. Which of us can honestly say that we've done our best? The most we can say is that we have done our best some of the time. Would it not be a bit naive to hope that a just and holy God will be satisfied if we just do our best some of the time?
God surely must be just and maintain His standards, and certainly none of us comes close to measuring up to perfection. So, if you have felt optimistic about your chances for getting into Heaven and this conversation makes you feel overwhelmed and discouraged, don't give up -- there is some really good news! |
