I thought we had to be perfect
To receive the gift, to truly believe in Christ, means to place our trust and confidence in Him and His payment, not in our goodness or our performance. When we make the decision to receive the gift, to place our trust in Jesus Christ, we transfer the trust from ourselves to Him. Even after someone accepts the gift, he or she still sins. That's imperfection, something God supposedly can't tolerate.
