I thought "sorry" wasn't enough
It's not that being sorry isn't important. It's just not enough. Justice demands that a penalty be paid. Jesus paid that penalty, and we can receive forgiveness based on what He did, not simply because we're sorry. One of the beautiful ironies of all this is that the grace of God, through the sacrifice of His Son, allows us to be perfectly honest about our sins and faults. We don't have to rationalize or make excuses. We can admit the truth about ourselves and still know that we're forgiven. This freedom to admit the truth about our flaws begins the healing process and helps us to grow and change.
